ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

One of the few conservators in India, Anupama Gaur pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from College of Arts, Chandigarh (1999) and then received training in Conservation at the National Museum Institute, New Delhi (2004). Skilling herself further in the domain of Painting Conservation, she interned at Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK in 2006 as a recipient of the esteemed Charles Wallace Fellowship.

As a professional conservator for 18 years, she has actively managed many national and international projects at several cultural institutions from the National Museum, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Indian National Trust for Arts and Culture Heritage (INTACH) and the Courtauld Institute for Art to private-public museums such as the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art.

In 2019, she was selected for a two-week residency on Preventive Conservation and Collection Management at the British Library, UK. She also received the Icon- Getty grant for a Continuing Professional Development Programme in UK and Ireland in the same year.

In 2021 she took part in a Getty supported masterclass hosted by Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam in order to advance her skills in restoring works of modern and contemporary art. She has also been selected for the ‘Conserving Canvas: Cotton Duck” workshop that will be held in July this year and will be co-hosted by the Harvard Art Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

An independent member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the Institute of Conservation (ICON), she is well versed with international guidelines and standards of conservation practices.
